Privacy Policy

Last updated October 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how LaFamilia Foundation (“LaFamilia,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you apply, create an account, sign in, or use our portal and community services (the “Services”).

1. Scope

This Policy covers the LaFamilia portal (including FounderFamilia, VCFamilia, AngelFamilia, join-community flows, and related admin tools), membership applications, and communications we send about the community.

It does not cover third-party websites, apps, or services we link to (for example authentication, payments, email, calendars, or messaging platforms). Those providers have their own privacy practices.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide and information generated when you use the Services:

  • Identity and contact: name, email, phone, LinkedIn or other profile links, city/location, heritage or community-eligibility answers where relevant.
  • Application and profile data: role (founder, investor, angel, ecosystem), company or firm details, investment or fundraising information you choose to share, preferences, and agreement checkboxes.
  • Account data: authentication identifiers and session information through our auth provider (Clerk), and membership or plan status.
  • Community activity: directory profile fields, connection or contact intents, event-related details, and feedback you submit.
  • Technical data: approximate device/browser information, IP address, and basic usage logs needed to operate and secure the Services.
  • Payments: if you donate or subscribe, payment processors (such as Stripe) handle card details; we receive limited billing metadata (for example status, plan, and receipt references), not full card numbers.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Review applications and manage membership access.
  • Operate the portal, directories, introductions, events, and community programs.
  • Communicate about your application, account, membership, events, and community updates (you can unsubscribe from non-essential emails where offered).
  • Improve safety, prevent abuse, and enforce community standards and Terms of Service.
  • Meet legal, accounting, and operational requirements.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who help us run the Services (hosting, authentication, email, analytics, payments, CRM/tools) under contractual obligations to protect data.
  • Other members, only as needed for features you use (for example directory profiles or introductions you request).
  • LaFamilia staff and designated community managers for review, support, and moderation.
  • Authorities or advisors when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the community.

5. Directory and location privacy

Member directories may show profile information you choose to publish. Contact details are handled carefully and are not shipped in bulk list payloads for scraping.

When a map shows member location, we use privacy-aware display coordinates (stored location plus a stable offset) rather than precise home addresses. You can keep location fields limited or ask us to adjust visibility where the product allows.

6. Retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, manage membership, resolve disputes, and meet legal or operational obligations. Application and account records may be retained after inactivity or offboarding where needed for history, security, or compliance. You may request deletion subject to the limits below.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data (access controls, encrypted transport, and provider security practices). No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong unique password and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, update, or delete personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email pilar@lafamiliafoundation.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

You can update many profile fields in the portal. You can also stop using the Services or request account offboarding through our usual membership process.

9. Children

The Services are intended for adults participating in professional founder and investor communities. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. International transfers

LaFamilia serves a diaspora community. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. By using the Services, you understand your information may be transferred to jurisdictions with different data-protection rules than your own.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you acknowledge the updated Policy.
